Pain is your friend

Pain is your friend

This topic is about our friend – PAIN.

Most of us ignore the first signs of pain, be it a niggle or a sharp one, especially if it’s not constant or not bothering our activities of daily living. Then there is the other end of the spectrum, the ones who panic at the first signs of pain or discomfort. These are often the ones, who have had a bad past experience while dealing with their aches, or have an important event in life lined up.

Pain is just a signal, that too a protective one. It a warning bell ringing in your head that something is not right and needs your attention. You need to address the pain with the right treatment.

There are various types of pain classifications, but we will be dealing with the mechanical pain, caused due to the stresses on your musculoskeletal structures, by certain movements and postures, which your body is not equipped to withstand, even if you are otherwise fit.

Understand the pain: If there is a pattern of pain provocation, we have to identify, modify and avoid that factor. We have to perform the corrective movements and postures that help reduce OR centralise the pain. Your physiotherapist would guide you with that, post a detailed history and physical evaluation.

Do not panic. Once you understand what triggers the pain and what reduces it, you just need to apply that knowledge. Doesn’t matter if it’s in the middle of the night/under lockdown/in a faraway country or in the middle of your run. Perform your correction as prescribed by your physiotherapist specific to your problem. Reduce your pain on your own.

Remember, pain is your best friend, a rather protective one, guarding you, whether you like what it says or not. Don’t ignore it, but also don’t panic. Communicate with us. We are available on the phone for answering your queries. Feel free to leave a message.

Warm regards,
Abhishek Bangera and team.
