Lock down side effects

We have been getting a lot of calls from our patients seeking tele-consults for back and neck pain in this lock down phase.

This sudden spike seems to correlate with the unaccustomed postures and activities that the quarantine has brought upon us all.

If you relate to any of the above four pictures, there are simpler ways to avoid pain altogether.

  1. Keep moving. Our body and joints are meant to move. Movement encourages lubrication of our joints. Prolonged rest increases sustained stress.
  2. Take frequent breaks from monotonous sustained postures. Changing the load on your joints every few minutes to half an hour is highly recommended. Imagine lifting all the groceries or your laptop bag continuously for more than half hour, wouldn’t that cause discomfort?
  3. Do a little bit of full body exercise daily. Need not be an 1 hour session. If in pain, observe the pain pattern and just avoid the exercises which provoke the pain while performing that particular exercise and continue with the others. Why should the entire body suffer cos of one or select few exercises producing pain.
  4. Delegate work. Divide work times. Don’t need to finish all the work in one go. You have the full day.
  5. Sleep well. A good night’s sleep is essential for your body to recover from the day’s stress.
